What to Expect at Your First Formula Health Consultation in Lexington, Kentucky
Booking a first appointment with a new practice can feel like a leap of faith. You do not know what to expect, whether it will feel right, or whether the experience will be worth your time.
At Formula Health, we want to take that uncertainty off the table.
Here is exactly what happens during your first consultation — and why we think you will leave feeling like you made the right call.
Before You Arrive
Your first consultation at Formula Health is a 30-minute conversation, not a medical exam. You do not need to bring insurance cards, fill out a stack of forms, or prepare a list of complaints.
What you should bring: yourself, and any questions you have been meaning to ask a doctor but never had the time or access to ask.
If you have a specific health concern you want to discuss, you are welcome to mention it when you book. But the consultation is designed to be open-ended — a chance for you to get to know your practitioner and for them to get to know you.
When You Walk In
The first thing you will notice is that there is no crowded waiting room. Formula Health is designed to feel more like a private office than a traditional clinic — calm, unhurried, and focused on you.
You will be greeted by name. You will not wait long. And when your practitioner comes in, they will not be glancing at a chart they just picked up for the first time. They will have reviewed whatever background you shared when you booked, and they will be ready to have a real conversation.
The Conversation Itself
The consultation is structured around you, not around a checklist.
Your practitioner will start by asking about your health history — not in a perfunctory way, but with genuine curiosity. They want to understand the full picture: your chronic conditions if you have any, your family history, your lifestyle, your goals.
They will ask questions that traditional appointments rarely have time for:
- How is your sleep?
- What does your stress level look like day to day?
- Are there health concerns you have been putting off addressing?
- What does "feeling healthy" mean to you?
These are not small talk. They are the foundation of a care relationship that is built to last.
What You Will Learn
By the end of the consultation, you will have a clear sense of how Formula Health works — and whether it is the right fit for your family.
Your practitioner will walk you through the membership model: what is included, how to reach them, what same-day access actually looks like in practice, and how they coordinate care when you need a specialist or imaging.
You will also have the chance to ask anything that has been on your mind. No question is too small. No concern is too routine. That is the point.
If You Decide to Enroll
If the consultation feels right and you want to move forward, enrollment is simple.
You will choose the membership tier that fits your family — Individual, Couple, or Family — and complete a brief health intake. The whole process takes about 15 minutes.
From that point on, you have direct access to your practitioner. Their number is in your phone. When something comes up — a sick child, a question about a medication, a symptom you want to talk through — you reach out directly. No call center. No triage nurse. Just your doctor.
If You Are Not Ready to Enroll
That is completely fine. There is no pressure, no sales pitch, and no obligation.
Some families come in for a consultation and enroll the same day. Others take a few weeks to think it over. Some come back six months later when they have had one too many frustrating experiences with their current practice.
We will be here whenever you are ready.
Common Questions We Hear
"Do I need to cancel my insurance?"
No. Concierge membership covers your primary care relationship. You still carry insurance for hospitalizations, specialist visits, and major medical events. Think of membership as the foundation — the relationship with a practitioner who knows you and coordinates the rest of your care.
"What if I have a pre-existing condition?"
Concierge medicine is particularly well-suited for patients managing chronic conditions. Your practitioner has the time to monitor your health closely, adjust your care plan proactively, and coordinate with specialists when needed. Many of our members joined specifically because they needed more attentive management of a chronic condition.
"What about my kids?"
Formula Health provides care for the whole family, from children to adults. Our Family membership includes pediatric care, school and sports physicals, and the same direct-access model for your children's health needs.
"How quickly can I get an appointment after enrolling?"
Same-day and next-day appointments are available for members. If you have an urgent concern, you can typically be seen the same day you reach out.
Ready to Book?
Open enrollment at Formula Health is now open. We keep our panel size intentionally small — which means availability is limited.
